Automating Argumentation for Deliberation in Cases of Conflict of Interest

چکیده
One approach to deliberation about the choice of what to do in a particular situation is to use an argument scheme based on the practical syllogism to supply a presumptive reason for the action, which is then subjected to a process of critical questioning to see if the presumption can be maintained. In this paper we describe an implemented realisation of this approach. We describe a representation which permits the instantiation of the argument scheme and the generation and consideration of critical questions to it. In order to automate the process we supply operational interpretations of the argument scheme, the critical questions and rebuttals to those questions. Our realisation is illustrated with a detailed example of a particular case.

Argumentative Deliberation for Autonomous Agents
This paper presents an argumentation based framework, developed as an extension of an existing framework for nonmonotonic reasoning, in order to support an agent’s self deliberation process. The framework allows the agent to draw conclusions taking into account in a natural way a given preference policy. After developing the argumentation framework we examine two general cases of such argumenta...
متن کاملModeling Lateral Communication in Holonic Multi Agent Systems
Agents, in a multi agent system, communicate with each other through the process of exchanging messages which is called dialogue. Multi agent organization is generally used to optimize agents’ communications. Holonic organization demonstrates a self-similar recursive and hierarchical structure in which each holon may include some other holons. In a holonic system, lateral communication occurs b...
متن کاملP2P Petition Drives and Deliberation of Shareholders
We introduce protocols for a fully decentralized synchronization of data items among equal peers in an argumentation framework (for applications such as debates in petition signature drives, and deliberation among shareholders). Here, an argumentation is a structured exchange of justifications around issues (or motions). The motions are relevant to organizations, and the organizations are rules...
متن کاملRequirements for reflective argument visualization tools
This paper formulates in the first part some requirements for a certain sort of computational argumentation systems, namely those which are designed for a very specific purpose: to motivate reflection on one’s own thinking, and to induce cognitive change. This function of argumentation systems is important for argument-based conflict negotiations, deliberation processes, intercultural communica...
متن کاملTesting the benfits of structured argumentation in multi-agent deliberation dialogues
Work on argumentation-based dialogue systems often assumes that the adoption of argumentation leads to improved efficiency and effectiveness. Several studies have taken an experimental approach to prove these alleged benefits, but none has so far supported the expressiveness of a logic for structured argumentation. This paper shows how the use of argumentation in deliberation dialogues can be t...
